Once a year, Nevada gives you a window.
If you have a Medicare Supplement plan, you can switch to a different one — same or lesser benefits — during your birthday month. No health questions. No waiting to see if you qualify.
They call it the birthday rule. Nevada Assembly Bill 250 put it into law.
Here's how it works. The window opens on the first day of your birthday month. It stays open for at least 60 days. During that time, no insurance company can turn you down or charge you more because of your health.
That's the part most people don't know. Outside this window, switching supplement plans usually means health questions. Inside it, you skip that step entirely.
Why does this matter? Because supplement premiums creep up every year, and most people never check if a better rate is sitting right next door. You don't have to be unhappy with your current plan to look. You just have to be in your birthday month.
I'll be honest about what this isn't. This isn't a Medicare Advantage plan review, and it isn't a sales pitch for a specific company. This is a plain look at your own birthday-month window, so you know whether it's worth using this year.
What I do in a free 20-minute review: I confirm your birthday-month window dates. I look at what you're paying now. And I tell you plainly whether shopping makes sense for you this year, or whether staying put is the better move. Sometimes staying put is the right answer, and I'll say so. If the only thing I ever do for you is tell you your window dates, that's a good day's work.
